Professional Development
(For school leaders & district teams)
In addition to our student programs, Vital Mathematics partners with schools and districts to provide K–5 mathematics professional development focused on strengthening instructional practice, building shared mathematical pedagogy, and supporting coherence across grade levels.
Our work is informed by the Singapore Math framework while remaining curriculum-agnostic and adaptable to a wide range of instructional models, including International Baccalaureate, standards-based programs, and project-based learning environments. The emphasis is on transferable strategies that enhance lesson design, visual modeling, questioning techniques, metacognition, and the development of number sense and critical thinking.
Through this work, schools strengthen instructional consistency, deepen teacher content knowledge, improve student reasoning and mathematical discourse, and build sustainable capacity for long-term growth across classrooms and grade levels.
Engagements are designed collaboratively with district and school leadership to align with existing priorities, initiatives, and instructional goals, ensuring that professional learning meaningfully supports each school’s unique context and strategic plan.
Professional Learning & Partnership Focus Areas
Singapore-Based Instructional Foundations
Examine the core principles of Singapore mathematics, including the Concrete–Pictorial–Abstract (CPA) progression, the development of number sense and fluency, reasoning-centered instruction, and structured representation of mathematical relationships. Strategies are adaptable across curricular frameworks to strengthen conceptual coherence.
Lesson Design & Instructional Coherence
Support the development of rigorous, standards-aligned lessons that prioritize reasoning, clarity of mathematical thinking, and vertical alignment across grade levels. Emphasis is placed on strengthening coherence within existing instructional models, including IB and standards-based programs.
Mathematical Discourse & Metacognitive Development
Strengthen teacher facilitation practices that promote student explanation, precise mathematical language, and reflective thinking. Focus areas include questioning strategies and structures that deepen reasoning across classrooms.
Intervention Systems & Progress Monitoring
Design effective small-group intervention models, including instructional structures, targeted skill development, scheduling considerations, and progress monitoring frameworks that support data-informed decision-making and sustainable academic growth.
Collaborative Engagement Model
All engagements are developed in partnership with district and school leadership to ensure alignment with instructional priorities, implementation goals, and long-term strategic plans.
